November 12, 2012 – Georgetown’s men’s basketball team had the experience of a lifetime Nov. 9 when they battled nationally-ranked Florida on the deck of the USS Bataan at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville in the Navy-Marine Corps Classic.
The Hoyas interacted with numerous service members while aboard the active military warship and witnessed a re-enlistment ceremony of seven sailors during a timeout.
The game was halted at halftime and declared a no-contest due to growing condensation on the court, but that didn’t dampen the Hoyas’ enthusiasm.
"This was a great atmosphere and a great opportunity to play on a court unlike any other,” said Georgetown player Nate Lubick (C’14). “Coach reminded us all week about remembering that while we want to win, the chance to play in front of the Navy and the people who protect our country is a great way to give a little back and say thanks."
