The Healey Family Student Center

A New Hub of Student Life on Campus

Healey Family Student Center Great Room South View

The Healey Family Student Center in New South residence hall will be the newest addition to a more vibrant student life on campus. A gift from the Healey family is helping create the new student center. Students played a significant role shaping the design and use of the space.

The new student center will include 44,000 square feet of student programming and social space. Amenities in the space will include:

  • A pub serving food to all and alcohol to those 21 and older
  • Hilltoss, a salad and smoothie service operated by The Corp
  • A "great room" with a fireplace hearth, couches, tables and chairs overlooking the Potomac River
  • A TV lounge
  • Four music practice rooms
  • Two dance studios
  • Individual study space
  • Group meeting and study space

The design of student center includes a new entrance from the current north courtyard and redesigned entrances at the ground level across from O'Donovan Hall and at the first floor level in the courtyard between New South and Village A. The south side facing the Potomac River will feature a new terrace with fire pits, green space and outdoor seating.

Construction on the Healey Family Student Center began in August 2013 and it will open in early September 2014.
