Agnellus of Ravenna

Agnellus of Ravenna wrote his Liber pontificalis ecclesiae Ravennatis between 830 and 846, telling the story of the church, and the churches, of his city. The work is of considerable historical and art-historical interest. The best recent study is that of J.-M. Pizarro, Writing Ravenna: A Narrative Performance in the Ninth Century (Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press, 1995, in the series, "Recentiores: Later Latin Texts and Contexts"). A new edition of the text of the Liber Pontificalis Ecclesiae Ravennatis, with an English translation and commentary, is in preparation by Profsesor Deborah Mauskopf Deliyannis of Indiana University.
