My Story Matters
An examination of how where we came from
determines where we are going
Overview
For as long as I can remember, the study of history has been a part of my formal education. I have memorized names, dates and places in an attempt to know history. What I failed to realize is that it is not enough to know history. Developing an understanding of the events and their impact is the important part of the field. History is more than the story of people who lived long ago. It is my story. The impact the events of the past have on my life is a tremendous one. Since history defines much of who I am, it is worthy of consideration on a personal level. It is only when we understand what influences are affecting my life that we can see the full reasons for our behaviors and decisions.
