Georgetown Hosts High Profile Speakers for Ideas Summit

WHO: The afternoon will be comprised of six discussions. Participants include:
  • Alonzo Mourning, founder and chair of Alonzo Mourning Charities, Inc. and seven-time NBA all-star;
  • John Thomposon III, head coach of the Georgetown men's basketball program;
  • Paul Tagliabue, former NFL commissioner and chair of the board of directors of Georgetown University;
  • Lucile Adams-Campbell, associate director for minority health and health disparities research at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center;
  • Howard Federoff, executive vice president for health sciences and executive dean of the Georgetown University School of Medicine;
  • Madeleine Albright, distinguished professor of diplomacy and former U.S. Secretary of State;
  • Prince Turki al-Faisal,former Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States, chair of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies;
  • Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland;
  • Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, former Representative from South Dakota; and
  • Ted Leonsis, founder and chair of Monumental Sports and Entertainment, member of the board of directors of Georgetown University.
WHAT:
Afternoon of Ideas Program:
Georgetown University is hosting a afternoon ideas and innovation summit to kick-off the launch of the new capital campaign, "For Generations to Come: The Campaign for Georgetown." The summit, titled "Think About It: An Afternoon of Ideas" will feature six discussions with prominent leaders from government, business and the Georgetown community.

Evening photo opportunity:
At approximately 6:45 p.m. members of the Georgetown community will gather on the main lawn of the university for a twilight lighting ceremony and toast. At this time, the historic buildings of main campus will be simultaneously lit up to signify the official public launch of the campaign.
