Announcing the Appointment of Michael K. Barry as Chief Investment Officer
May 31, 2011
Ladies and Gentlemen:
It is my great pleasure to announce that I have appointed Michael K. Barry to be Georgetown University’s next Chief Investment Officer. I am deeply grateful to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Chris Augostini and Robert Steers, Chair of the Board’s subcommittee on investments, for their close consultation throughout this process.
As Chief Investment Officer, Mike will oversee the University’s management of investment portfolios, including endowment assets, trusts and operating funds. He will also manage an investment office with an experienced team of investment and operational support professionals.
Mike comes to Georgetown from the University System of Maryland Foundation, where he has held positions in the Investment Office since 2003, and served as Chief Investment Officer since 2005. At USMF, he was responsible for the investment of endowment and operating funds on behalf of the 11 member universities that invest with the USM Foundation Investment Office and 6 non-profit clients. Prior to his arrival at the Foundation, Mike served as a Senior Research Associate at Cambridge Associates, one of the nation’s leading investment consulting firms.
Mike is also an Investment Committee Member of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges. He serves as an Advisory Board Member of No Greater Sacrifice, a non-profit providing scholarships for children of deceased soldiers.
Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Mike. I very much look forward to our work together.
You have my very best wishes.
John J. DeGioia
