Statement by Julie Green Bataille

March 30, 2011

Georgetown University was again proud to host President Obama on campus today to deliver a major policy address on energy security.

As a Catholic and Jesuit University Georgetown is committed to the free exchange of ideas and to discourse on important issues of the day. Our faculty and students are engaged in critical public policy issues and seeking to address some of the most complex challenges facing our world today. Opportunities for our students and faculty to hear directly from world leaders contributes to their academic work and student experience and is central to our mission.

Today’s remarks were delivered in McDonough Arena, chosen to accommodate the largest number of people wanting to attend. As exists in many venues and locations throughout our campus, religious iconography reflecting our identity is on full display. (A photo gallery from the event is available here).
